Challenges

Competing in a Mall-Saturated Area

Lakewood, New Jersey has experienced unusually high population growth in the past decade, and new shopping centers seem to be sprouting up everywhere to meet the demand. City Center faced an additional challege. It’s located in a neighborhood that has enjoyed a recent facelift, but was previously dilapidated and suffered from all sorts of socioeconomic problems. We needed to change the public’s perception of the neighborhood. Only a truly magnificent mall would do that.

In designing City Center the focus was on constructing a trendy, inviting mall that would attract both retailers and corporate clients. To cater to the shifting demographics in the neighborhood, plans include an excellent security system, attractions for children and easy accessibility for seniors.

Hitting Obstacles Underground

When preparing the site for the mall’s foundation, our tractors uncovered several centuries-old buildings underground. Engineers reinforced the entire structure, working with township officials and maintaining our uncompromising commitment to quality.
